Advocacy Based Curriculum

No ray of sunshine is ever lost but the green which it awakens takes time to sprout, and it is not always granted to the sower to see the harvest.- Albert Schweitzer

Digilantes has a foundation of Advocacy Based Curriculum that offers a fantastic opportunity to empower students to become active participants in creating solutions in the world around them. Our name is Digilantes and our goal is to raise awareness about important global issues. We have established our graphic identity, authored a mission statement and slogans, and continue to theme programs and causes that we adopt. We have also created an internet website to reach a broader audience and to enlist the assistance of others who share our vision. Our crusade is to inform and involve everyone to work together to resolve these societal problems. The organizational skills that our students acquire will prepare them for employment while fostering social responsibility. The benefit associated with the causes that we address is also important.

This interdisciplinary program is not intended only for students in the classroom. We have made partnerships with indivuals, artists, non-profit organizations, goverment agencies and businesses who contribute their creative efforts to assist us.

In the past we have focused on such issues as crime, animal rights, homelessness, the environment, substance abuse and literacy. We have found that people become very passionate about these issues as they become better informed.

We have begun to research child labor violations in the United States and abroad. We feel that this is not only a labor and employment issue but also a human rights and world trade issue. The materials and data that we collect will be used to raise awareness through presentations, printed publications and electronic media.
